CAPMT STATE CONFERENCE

California State University Fresno

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15 AND SATURDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2021

Recovery & Renewal: Music Moving Forward

Guest Artists:

Piano Duo Ran Dank and Soyeon Kate Lee, in partnership with the Philip Lorenz International Keyboard Concerts

In partnership with Philip Lorenz International Keyboard Concerts, we are excited to feature a performance and masterclass by Ran Dank and Soyeon Kate Lee in this year's conference! Israeli born pianist Ran Dank returns to the series together with his wife, Korean born pianist Soyeon Kate Lee, both prize winners at numerous prestigious competitions including the Naumburg International Piano Competition and the Sydney International Piano Competition. The combination of Ran Dank’s “impeccable technical surety, explosive force, and triumphant exultation” (The Washington Post) and Soyeon Kate Lee’s “huge, richly varied sound, lively imagination, and firm sense of style” (The New York Times) results in a most exhilarating experience.

Commissioned Composer:

Amy Stephens

Pianist Amy Stephens is an award-winning Third Stream and jazz composer. Her solo piano works include Scenes of San Francisco and Becoming: Suite for Solo Piano. She has recorded several albums of her jazz ensemble compositions with her critically acclaimed quartet, Amy Stephens Group.

Teaching privately since 1993, Amy is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music. Amy earned two Bachelors, a Masters, and Performer’s Certificate in classical & jazz piano from Indiana University. Her jazz and classical mentors include David N. Baker, Lynne Arriale, Luke Gillespie, Marius Nordal, and Evelyne Brancart. Amy also enjoys serving as a clinician and evaluator for festivals and adjudications. She loves living in San Francisco and exploring the coast with her family.
